Welcome to the George Nelson House.
The George Nelson House is the only home in Montauk, New York designed by George Nelson, one of the greatest pioneers of American modernist design, along with his partner Gordon Chadwick. Completed in 1962, this extraordinary example of mid-century modernist design is ingeniously composed of converging hexagonal volumes intersected by vertical planes and protruding cross sections which serve both form and function as a double-height fireplace and refuge from the natural elements, respectively.
Thoughtfully restored and purposefully updated, the George Nelson House in Montauk features 4 bedrooms with 3.5 baths over 2 stories with a rooftop observation deck and is capable of comfortably sleeping up to 8 guests. This one-of-a-kind home offers jovial spaces for entertaining, an abundance of natural light and nearly 360-degree views over the surrounding natural preserve toward the sound, Lake Montauk and Atlantic Ocean. The home is adorned with original built-in shelving and lounge seating designed by George Nelson specific only to this home and includes an era-appropriate Murphy bed behind a folding wall panel in the downstairs living room.
The George Nelson House is available for short-term private getaways or monthly summer rentals, corporate events, retreats and functions as well as commercial use, including photography, magazine, television and movie opportunities. Call, click or text to reserve this one-of-a-kind home and enjoy all the beauty that is Montauk.
“No design can exist in isolation.
It is always related, sometimes in very complex ways, to an entire constellation of influencing situations and attitudes.
What we call a good design is one which achieves integrity—that is, unity or wholeness—in balanced relation to its environment.”
